Quick Dating Tips from Fab Love

The importance of communication:

Communication holds the key to all when your dating, get it wrong and you will blow it, but get it right and you may be heading for a truly blissful relationship.

I remember once that a lady used to phone me many times a day before we even had a date, then complained i didn't do likewise. I felt truly overpowered to the extent I never went on the first date!

If you've gone about dating the right way, you should have already had a few online chats and on the phone and during those times you should try and work out how the other person likes to communicate. These days, texting each other seems to be more popular than phone calls all the time. In part because we live much busier lives than years ago and texts are less intrusive and demanding than the phone ringing. A text or email does not demand a 'drop everything' immediate response unlike a phone call. Save the phone for those more intimate chats but keep in touch with texts, especially humorous ones. A funny text can make someone's day, while an unannounced phone call can stress them.

So, you've met up for the first date and you have some ideas about the other persons likes from chatting. But first there are a few things you need to keep in mind about your own likes and dislikes in conversation. For instance, some people find that teasing and sarcasm are good positive interactions, while others require long, drawn-out intimate conversations or constant joking to feel connected.
Do you feel comfortable expressing difficult feelings? How do you feel and what do you do when there is silence in a conversation?   Do you feel comfortable expressing difficult feelings? Are there certain topics or subjects you prefer talking about over others?  How do you feel about being interrupted?  Do you tend to interrupt others? What kind of humour do you appreciate? How do you communicate when you are upset? Do you like eye contact when speaking to another person? What are your taboo or off-limits topics? Do you feel safe sharing your personal issues? Do you have any communication skills that need to be worked on? And of course, which are you better at listening or speaking?

If your really serious about dating and looking for a long lasting relationship, you need to know all these things and many more about your chosen partner as well and all that comes from communication over time! When two people feel comfortable expressing their needs, fears, and desires with each other, trust and bonds are strengthened. Body language like eye contact, leaning forward or away, or touching someone’s arm are also important to communication.

Remember, even if you've been together for years, communication is vital to holding together a relationship and adding strength to it. Relationships are an investment. The more you put in, the more you can get back. Togetherness requires thought that leads to words and actions that create wonderful relationships.
